The GOAT city of the entire trip. Tacos al pastor will change your life ($1-2). Tortas. Tlayudas. Biblioteca Vasconcelos (futuristic library, free). At least a week. I'd live here.
OPEN IN GOOGLE MAPSMezcal, markets, some of the best food in the world. Roadside mezcal tastings between Oaxaca and the coast — free tastings, fantastic. Chocolate del Agua is the local hot chocolate. Hierve el Agua natural pools nearby.
OPEN IN GOOGLE MAPSPacific coast magic. Zipolite is the nude beach. Mazunte is the best of the three for a base. Super chilled, incredible sunsets.
OPEN IN GOOGLE MAPSMountain escape. Peaceful. Mushrooms, Temazcal sweat lodge ceremonies, incredible sunsets. Bostel Rancho is the hostel — books out fast. One of the most unique places on the trip.
OPEN IN GOOGLE MAPSCool mountain town, fascinating indigenous culture, incredible church in Chamula (chickens sacrificed inside, candles everywhere, Coca-Cola as religious offering — no photos allowed, one of the wildest things you'll see).
OPEN IN GOOGLE MAPSBacalar = stunning freshwater lagoon, peaceful, 2-3 days. Tulum = touristy but the cenotes (Cristal y Escondido, 150 MXN) are unreal. Skip the hotel zone, stay in Tulum Pueblo, rent a scooter.
Tip: Cenotes Cristal y Escondido are better than the touristy ones near Tulum town. ~A$9. Rent a scooter — you'll miss half the area without one.
OPEN IN GOOGLE MAPSSurf, parties, deep-sea fishing. Fishing charter with Omar's Sportfishing — caught a marlin, ~A$500 for two. Don't go on the beach at night — police will try to fine you.

What buyers told us.
Bought the Italy guide. Then the Vault. Then Pro. That's how good these are. I'm pre-ordering every guide before they exist. The community alone is worth it.
$15 is nothing, I spend more than that on a single brunch. It saved me hours of planning and made the actual trip better. Honestly I'd have paid $50 for any of these guides.
I've paid for most of the travel content out there at some point. Aussies In is the only one that reads like it was written by someone who actually travels, not a marketer. That's why I keep buying them.
Cannot express how excited I am about what Lucas and Aussies In are doing here. I've been a part of the Vietnam chat for a couple of weeks now before I head out — you hear from real Aussies experiencing the country first-hand, plus Aussies living there as locals giving you advice. I've booked my whole trip around the Vietnam guide and I'm so excited. It's made everything a blast and so easy (also made me realise I needed a visa lol).
It's given me a lot more confidence to travel and also saved me heaps of time with research. Couldn't be happier with the guide. I specifically liked the section where you talk about common scams and basic language. Will definitely help me on my trip and enjoy it more. Thanks heaps mate!
Landed in Cusco convinced we'd get last-minute Inca Trail permits and got laughed at politely by three different agencies. The guide's Salkantay pitch saved the trip. Went with Machu Picchu Team on the 5-day, groups of 12 so it felt personal, and the crystal dome at Soraypampa was the highlight, better views than my Airbnb back home. Mentioned Aussies In at booking, USD 15 off, no hoops.
Mistakes the guide saves you from.
Blowing the CA-4 90-day clock without realising it's shared
Anyone who thinks each country resets the counter — it doesn't
Cancún hotel zone over Tulum Pueblo / Bacalar for a week
Most first-time travellers to the region
Booking the Acatenango hike with the cheapest operator (freezing, no gear)
Anyone who books on price alone
Getting your dive licence somewhere pricey instead of Utila / Roatán
Divers who certify before reaching Honduras
Taking the wrong bus after dark instead of a shuttle
Travellers who don't know which routes to avoid
Turning up to El Paredón / remote towns with no cash (no ATMs)
Anyone who assumes there's an ATM — there isn't
Missing the San Blas sail because you didn't book ahead
Anyone who leaves the Colombia crossing to the last minute
Skipping travel insurance + getting hospitalised
Anyone who tries to save A$300 on insurance — true budget killer if it goes wrong

Common questions.
Is this worth it if I'm only going for a couple of weeks?
Does it cover Honduras and Panama?
Is it a PDF?
How is this different from the full Latin America guide?
I'm only going to Mexico. Still worth it?
What if it's not for me?
Your trip, planned.
